Food and fun are on the docket for events in June in South Lake Union! Check out some of our highlighted favorites…

Throughout June: Pasta Classes at Cuoco

Learn pasta making technique, recipes and more at Cuoco throughout June, with three fun pasta classes! After instruction and hands-on demonstration, enjoy a 3-course family dinner, plus wine and a take-home portion of your pasta. The cost is $65 per person. Mondays in June: Monday Midday Meditation

June 1: First Free Thursday at MOHAI

On the first Thursday of the month, June 1st, the Museum of History and Industry offers free general admission for the museum’s permanent exhibits – all day long! The free admission includes: True Northwest: the Seattle Journey, and the Bezos Center for Innovation.

June 3: Art on the Fly

Celebrate the arts, music and dance with food and fun at Art on the Fly, a community event on June 3rd, in tandem with the SLU Saturday Market. There will be numerous outdoor performances, free dance classes, vendors of arts and crafts, food trucks and more.

June 4: Cavatappi Wine Dinner
6:30pm – 9pm | Serafina
Serafina is hosting a special wine dinner this month, featuring wines from Cavatappi, a Nebbiolo and Sangiovese-focused winery with Peter Dow at the helm. Complementing the wines will be a five-course dinner with Mediterranean dishes. Tickets are $120 per person (not including tax and gratuity). Reservations are required: 206-323-0807.

June 6: Drink & Draw at the VUDE
5pm – 8pm | The VUDE
Sip wine and color at the Big Brothers Big Sisters Charitable Event, Drink & Draw at The VUDE on June 6th. Hosted by the Young Professionals Committee, proceeds from this event support the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door and cover three tastings of Hand of God wines, light appetizers, one raffle ticket and access to adult coloring books for fun! Additional raffle tickets will be available for sale.

June 10: Seattle Makers Market
11am – 5pm | 400 Fairview Avenue
Visit the ground floor of the Market Hall at 400 Fairview on Saturday, June 10th for the monthly Seattle Makers Market series! This free event features handmade goods from crafters, artists, makers and artisans in the Seattle area.

June 11: Arte & Vino at Caffe Torino
2pm – 5pm | Caffe Torino
In their monthly art and wine event Caffe Torino is hosting local artist Jiamin Zhu and her collection titled, The Silk Road. These stunning photographs on canvas are reflections of fantasies and fairy tales encountered on Jiamin’s journey of cultural migration from the east to Seattle.

June 24: South Lake Union Under the Microscope Tour
10am – 12pm | REI
Get a closer look at the neighborhood, and examine the key ingredients for urban revitalization on the monthly South Lake Union Under the Microscope Tour. Participants will learn about strategies for urban design and architecture, engage with master planning projects as well as private-public ventures, and find out about unique experiments in development. This month, the tour is on Saturday, June 24th and includes the Stackhouse Apartments, 400 Fairview, Denny Park, 9th and Harrison, and St. Spiridon’s.

June 24: Get Out & Boat Fest
11am – 12pm | Chandler’s Cove
The annual Get Out & Boat Fest is coming up on June 24th, with free 45-minute rides on power and sailboats, education on nautical terms and techniques, and more. This family-friendly event includes kids activities, live music, and food vendors.

June 24: Seattle Outdoor Cinema 25th Anniversary
6pm – 9pm | SLU Discovery Center
It’s the 25th anniversary celebration for the Fremont Outdoor Cinema, now known as the Seattle Outdoor Cinema. The main event is an outdoor showing of Rogue One on a 55 foot inflatable screen. This free family-friendly screening on June 24th will have food trucks, a charity beer garden, and lots of fun.

June 30: Beer Camp Across America
5pm – 9pm | South Lake Union
The largest craft beer festival in America comes to South Lake Union on June 30th. Beer Camp Across America features hundreds of craft beers, food trucks, live music and fun! Tickets are $55 – $75 ($40 for designated drivers).

Lake Union Events: Things to Do in September

Taste, play and learn in the upcoming Lake Union events for September…

September 1: SLU Chamber’s First Thursday Happy Hour
5pm – 7pm | Fred Hutch’s Visitor Center
Explore and learn about the great research happening at Fred Hutch at the SLU Chamber’s First Thursday Happy Hour on September 1st, starting at 5 p.m. There will be beverages and light appetizers, then head to Chandler’s Cove to visit John L. Scott’s office for more drinks, snacks and connecting/networking time. The cost is $20 for members and $30 for non-members. Register here.

September 2: Out to Lunch Concert with Naomi Wachira
12pm – 1:30pm | Van Vorst Courtyard
Step out for lunch and enjoy a free live music performance on September 2nd in the Van Vorst Plaza. In the Downtown Seattle Association’s Out to Lunch Concert Series, Naomi Wachira will be performing from noon until 1:30 p.m. on the 2nd.

September 9: Secrets of Gin Cocktail Class
1pm – 3pm | Serafina Seattle
Gin is a spirit that has been used in a variety of classic and innovative cocktails for over 200 years. Explore the history of this spirit, try vintage recipes and learn how to use gin in your own home bar in this cocktail class from Serafina. The cost is $80 per person, before tax or gratuity. September 9 & 10: Cider Summit Seattle
3pm – 8pm | SLU Discovery Center
The 7th Annual Cider Summit Seattle comes back to South Lake Union this year, with over 150 ciders to try! The event is from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, September 9th and from noon until 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 10th. Tickets are $30-$45 and include a souvenir tasting glass and 8-12 tasting tickets.

September 10: Science Block Party at Seattle Children’s Research Institute
11am – 3pm | Seattle Children’s Research Institute
Climb aboard the Seattle Children’s Science Adventure Lab, get kids fitted for a FREE bike helmet, learn about the Institute’s latest research, tour the Discovery Portal visitor center, and more at a FREE hands-on event at the Seattle Children’s Research Institute. The Science Block Party is on September 10th from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., with live music and food trucks throughout the event.

September 10: Pink Boat Regatta
12pm – 5pm | Lake Union Park
Get ready to don yourself (and your boat) in pink and race in the Pink Boat Regatta in support of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation! The Regatta is on September 10th at noon, with a kickoff party and celebration dinner. All proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

September 14: Bourbon Heritage Dinner at Daniel’s Broiler
6:30pm – 9pm | Daniel’s Broiler South Lake Union
Enjoy a gourmet dinner by Daniel’s Broiler’s SLU Chef Ayhan Barlas alongside specially selected bourbons. On September 14th, the Bourbon Heritage Dinner is sure to be a top event of the fall! September 11: Cascade Second Sunday Stroll

On the second Sunday of each month, businesses and residents of Cascade and SLU get out and about to appreciate the fun activities and features of the neighborhood in the Cascade Second Sunday Stroll. Visit participating businesses and venues that offer deals and discounts, special products and services, seasonal treats, art pop-ups, and more.

September 25: Closing of “Toys of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s” at MOHAI
10am – 6pm | Museum of History and Industry
Since June, the Museum of History and Industry has exhibited “Toys of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s”. That exhibit chronicles the rich contemporary history of toys from the post-World War II era into the innovations of the 1970s. It will come to a close on September 25th.

September 30: Trucktoberfest
5pm – 9pm | SLU Discovery Center
The second annual Trucktoberfest tasting event comes to the South Lake Union Discovery Center lawn from Friday, September 30th through Sunday, October 2nd. Enjoy some of the best food trucks with beer from regional breweries, lawn games, an outdoor film series and special guests.

South Lake Union Block Party – Next Friday!

The most exciting neighborhood event in Lake Union is coming up on Friday, August 12th. It’s the South Lake Union Block Party! Starting at 11 a.m., the festivities commence on the corner of Denny Way and Westlake Ave N.

The jam-packed lineup of local bands for the SLU Block Party’s beat connection includes Hibou, The True Loves, Lemolo, Danny Newcomb & The Sugarmakers, and more! Musicians and bands will perform throughout the day, so there’s plenty of chances to enjoy their fun sounds.

In addition to live music, there will be a couple of community activities to take part in…

Eateries that are known for their burgers are participating in the “Best Burger in SLU” competition, presented by Whole Foods Market. Purchase tickets for $20 to taste all five sliders from participating rivals: Brave Horse Tavern’s “The Torta Burger Press”, Local Public Eatery’s “Big Kahuna Burger”, Lunchbox Laboratory’s “Piggie Smalls” burger, Pan Pacific Hotel’s “99 Problems But A Peach Ain’t One” burger, and Sam’s Tavern’s “Magic Mushroom Burger”.

The School of Visual Concepts is hosting a Steamroller Smackdown. “Teams of top designers will print gigantic posters using a steamroller in lieu of a traditional printing press. This year’s thought-provoking poster theme is Northwest Stories; trophies will be awarded by Seattle Arts and Lectures Executive Director Ruth Dickey.”

Brave Horse Tavern is hosting a beer garden, with local craft beers, wine and cider and their signature pretzels for sale. Underdog Sports is hosting lawn games in the beer garden, for public enjoyment. And of course, Seattle’s best food trucks will be out and about, serving snacks and delicious lunch and dinner items.

SLU Block Party is free, so it’s a great way to get out, meet your neighbors, and enjoy some fun community activities, food and drink. This year, there will be art, lots of live music and other performances, and food and beverages to excite your taste buds and fill your belly.

August 2: National Night Out on Dexter Ave.
5pm – 7pm | 1100 Dexter Avenue
The National Night Out comes to the Lake Union neighborhood on Tuesday, August 2nd. From 5 until 7 p.m., learn about safety, meet your neighbors and enjoy free live music as you eat and drink. Our neighborhood Night Out will be held in the brick courtyard at 1100 Dexter Avenue.

August 6: Seattle Outdoor Cinema: “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?”
7pm – 10pm | SLU Discovery Center
The SLU Discovery Center is hosting an outdoor movie night on Saturday, August 6th, featuring “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?”. In addition to the movie, there will be lots of pre-show entertainment such as a beer garden. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the movie begins at dusk. Tickets are $5/person.

August 12: SLU Block Party
11am – 11pm | SLU Discovery Center
The annual South Lake Union Block Party is coming up on Friday, August 12th. Enjoy free live music and performances throughout the day, the School of Visual Concepts’ Steamroller Smackdown, Brave Horse Tavern beer garden, “Best Burger in SLU” competition (see below), and more! There will be plenty of art and vendor booths to peruse, plus food and beverages to taste and enjoy.

August 12: Best Burger in SLU Grilling Competition
5pm – 8pm | SLU Discovery Center
Which neighborhood establishment makes the best burger? You can find out for yourself at the grilling competition for the Best Burger in SLU (part of the SLU Block Party). On August 12th, starting at 5 p.m. in the SLU Discovery Center, taste slider samples from Sam’s Tavern, Local Public Eatery, Lunchbox Laboratory, Brave Horse Tavern, and Pan Pacific Hotel. Tickets are $20/person.

August 14: Lake Union 10K
7:30am | South Lake Union Park
The 8th annual Lake Union 10K is coming up on Sunday, August 14th. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. at Lake Union Park in the southwest corner of Lake Union. Come together to enjoy and raise funds for the Food Lifeline at this 21+ event.

August 19: Seattle Outdoor Cinema: “The Big Lebowski”
5pm – 10pm | SLU Discovery Center
The SLU Discovery Center is hosting an outdoor movie night on Saturday, August 19th, featuring “The Big Lebowski” as part of the 5th annual Dude Fest! In addition to the movie, there will be lots of pre-show entertainment such as a beer garden. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the movie begins at dusk. Tickets are $10/person, 21+ only.

August 20 & 21: Seattle Street Food Festival
11am – 6pm | 101 Westlake Ave N
More than 100 local eateries are bringing us the goods for the Seattle Street Food Festival on August 20th and 21st. This is a free 2-day event in South Lake Union.

August 20: Movies in the Park: “Toy Story”
6pm – 9pm | Lake Union Park
As part of MOHAI’s current exhibit on “Toys of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s”, the museum is hosting an outdoor movie night on Saturday, August 20th from 6 – 9 p.m. The featured movie will be “Toy Story”. Pre-show activities, including oversized Jenga, Connect Four, Bananagrams, chess and inflatable bowling are from 6 p.m. until sundown. Hula hoop performances (with lessons and hoop time) from Hoopsmiles is from 6:45 – 8:15 p.m., Brian Vogan and His Good Buddies is from 7 – 8 p.m., and a “Toy Story” costume parade (open to all) is at 7:45. Then, enjoy the movie with cotton candy, popcorn and other treats from MOHAI Cafe. This is a free event, and includes fun for the whole family.

Don’t Miss the Lake Union 10K, August 14th!

The Lake Union 10K is back! It’s coming up on Sunday, August 14th. This is the 8th annual race of its kind, and involves running (or walking, if you’re so inclined) clockwise around the lake on the Cheshiahud Lake Union Loop Trail on a fully-supported 10K (6.21-mile) course.


For runners, the starting time is 7:30 a.m., and walkers have their own dedicated start at 7:35 a.m. Both groups will start at Westlake Avenue North in Lake Union Park in the southwest corner of Lake Union.

After the race, there will be vendor booths, raffle and awards, as well as the highly anticipated French Toast and breakfast bar provided by Portage Bay Cafe!

The Lake Union 10K was founded by 5focus, a local physical therapy, massage, kinesis and interval training business. It is sponsored by Portage Bay Cafe. The Lake Union 10K benefits Girls on the Run of Puget Sound, and has been named one of Seattle’s top 10K events.

Since the inception of the Lake Union 10K, 3,934,500 calories have been burned by runners and walkers. Last year, 2,282 slices of French Toast were served by Portage Bay Cafe to feed runners after the race!
